I really love my....

I really love my...yellow shoes. I picked these pretty ladies up at the most adorable thrift store I've ever seen a few months ago while a friend was in town. It was like it was all meant to be because they were exactly my size and maybe one of my favorite colors to accent outfits with.

I had no intentions of buying anything (and very strict rules from the hubby to not buy anything) but I just couldn't leave them in that store. They were meant to be mine. And I'm so glad I got them. Check out all of the great ways that these pretty yellow shoes have styled up my outfits!

What a perfect day for a nap

We all agree that rainy days are perfect for staying cuddled up in comfortable bed and sleeping in. Or taking a nap. Or climbing under my desk and taking a nap. Someone please tell my coworkers to just wake me up if they need me.

Taking advantage of the warmth

The long holiday weekend was beautiful here in Richmond. It turned out to be some great days to go out Black Friday shopping (yes, I sure did) as well as get some running in with the dogs.

L: Black Friday shopping - R: Black Friday sustenance

And the weather continues to be wonderful. Which means that I need to take advantage of this warmth while I can. This time of year I'm used to bundling up in sweaters and scarves and having a foot or more of snow on the ground. It's surreal that I'm actually wearing shorts and a tank top today. Yup, you read that right. Now, people from Richmond think that this weather is normal fall weather and are all wearing fall 'appropriate' clothes and looking at me like I'm a crazy person in my shorts.  Which, maybe I am a crazy person. But to make my outfit look a little more 'fall' I've added some tights and a blazer. But still, shorts and a tank and I'm still warm!

Sunday Splurge

I must be on a shopping high. I guess the more accurate term would be a shopping hangover from all my Black Friday shopping (which really wasn't that much to be honest). Either way, my shopping hangover has pushed me to purchase a few amazing things today.

First I took a little stroll through Piperlime.com. I have a kind friend that gave me a $100 gift cart to Piperlime after doing a handful of recommendation letters for her to get into grad school. Such a sweetheart. SA - here's what you bought me!! And let me know when all 6 of those schools want you to attend. ;)

Then, I fell upon a beautiful sequins skirt at Asos for only $40! I've fallen for quite a few sequins skirts lately, but they've all either been far too short or far too expensive. But this pencil skirt is the perfect length and the perfect price. Now to stalk the UPS man until my deliveries have arrived.

Sunday Storytime: In a Heartbeat

I hope everyone has enjoyed their long Thanksgiving weekend. I can honestly say that I have. I slept in every day until around noon. I didn't know that was even possible anymore, but it happened people. In between sleeping all night and day and squeezing in some Black Friday shopping I finished up a couple of great books. One of which is In a Heartbeat by Rosalind Noonan.

Kate McGann is a mother of a 19-year-old boy named Ben. Ben is the perfect son; kind, respectful, smart, popular and athletic. And Kate would like to think that her and her estranged husband, Eli had something to do with how great Ben turned out, especially now that herself and Eli have much less ups than downs.

Ben is spending the summer playing baseball a few hours away from home at Cross College in Syracuse with his best friend - taking his first step towards his childhood dream of becoming a major league player. A dream which Kate knows will happen if her son wants it badly enough. And all was going according to plan until early one morning, Kate gets that dreaded call that Ben has been hurt. Worse than hurt. Kate receives a call that her son is in laying in a coma at the Syracuse hospital after being beaten by a baseball bat.

Kate's world comes crashing down around her but she stays strong and at her son's side everyday - which is more than can be said about her husband, Eli. Who becomes suffocated being in the hospital and travels the hours back to their hometown instead.

Detective Greg Cord is the lead on Ben's investigation and will do anything in his power to track down who put Ben in his coma. And Greg's most obvious leads are Ben's fellow ball players. The pros were scouting Ben's team and with Ben being the all-star that he is, the thought is that he was taking the eye of all the scouts, leaving no room for the rest of the team.

Among the predictable-ness of a love that buds between Detective Cord and Kate there are also some unpredictable directions that the investigation takes. Turns out to be a pretty decent book. I'd give it a solid three stars.

T-giving Traditions

Since we've lived so far away from family for the past few years, Hubster and I don't celebrate Thanksgiving. It's not worth it. Right now, we're talking about how to make it home for Christmas which is an absolute stress-induced headache. So we choose to have a de-stressed Thanksgiving instead.

Our tradition for the past few years is to go snowboarding on Thanksgiving Day and have Sonic for our Thanksgiving dinner. And it's amazing. Honestly, the best Thanksgivings ever. However, since we now live in Virginia instead of Colorado, we're struggling with finding a ski resort that's open. We're still looking though. Our backup? Going to see The Muppets, and of course tracking down our Sonic dinner.

Here's my last outfit before the long Thanksgiving weekend. Being lazy, I had to wear a sweatshirt. I couldn't not wear a sweatshirt today. So I tried to style it up as much as possible by throwing on a skirt and some heels.

A How To

Scarves are one of my favorite accessories. I don't wear jewelry all that often (not a fan, to say the least) so a scarf is my go-to accessory to style up and change the look of an outfit. And the best part about them? That there are endless ways to wear them. And Pintrest is an excellent place to learn some of these endless ways.

Like how I'm wearing mine today. I pulled this scarf styling from here.

Something to learn

Ever since I truly started taking an interest in the clothes that I was putting on my body, I've learned a couple of lessons. The biggest one? Don't throw anything away. These rockin' blue heels? I almost Goodwill'ed them about 6 months ago.

I go through phases when all I want to do is clean out my closet and get rid of the shit that I don't wear anymore. The problem with that? Less than 6 months later I always wish I would have kept 'that' shirt or 'those' shoes. It never fails. So, unless something doesn't fit or has a gigantic stain on it - I'm keeping it forever. Never again will I buy something that I already owned once upon a time.

Sunday Storytime: Assholes Finish First

The second of probably a long run of books by Tucker Max, Assholes Finish First is another from-another-world, drunkenly stupid, sex-filled book. If y'all remember my book review from a couple of weeks ago, Max's first book, I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell is a raunchy book. A disgusting book filled with numerous accounts of his sexcapades with young women. But it made me laugh.

And since I thought the first book was so funny, and yes, sometimes disturbing, I decided to give Assholes a chance. There's really no difference between Assholes and IHTSBiH. Same guy, same friends, same premise and that's about it. It's almost like how everyone loved The Hangover so much, but then were surprisingly let down when Hangover 2 ended up to be the exact same move.

Assholes, while still just as funny and disgusting as the first book, is really just another thirty or so chapters of the exact same thing. Tucker Max, now thirty something, still acting like a freshman in college. And that may never change.

The best thing about these books? How great it makes me feel about myself. Honestly, I can't give this any more than 2 stars. Give us something new Max.

Pretty in Purple

Another great choice made by everyone yesterday. It was a close call, but here's the outfit that won this week's What to Wear Friday.

I must say though, that I did have to make a few minor modifications. I woke up this morning and it was only 20 degrees. I was not expecting that, especially being 80 degrees earlier this week. So, throw on a scarf, some tall socks and boots, and I'm ready for the day. Thank you to all who voted for such a great outfit.

Wanted: A personal stylist to help me make better choices

And today this personal stylist can be you! I made some bad outfit decisions this week - a sweater when it was far too warm. Shorts and heels when I ended up working at 14 hour day at work (and just wanted to be in sweatpants). I'm striking out and could really need your guys' help now. So you tell me, what should I wear tomorrow?

Vote for which outfit you would like to see me in tomorrow below or on my Facebook page!

Falling for shorts

Until this year, I haven't really tried to wear shorts in the fall. It could be because I've been in colder climates like Minneapolis and Denver, and now that I'm in Richmond the weather is much more conducive to shorts wearing. It could be because I didn't have any shorts that I really loved. Until now. These shorts are DIY cut-offs of a pair of Hubby's pants that he stopped wearing.

The main reason he stopped wearing them? A gigantic hole in the butt. But don't worry, holes don't scare me. I just patched that sucker up with some cute flowery patterned fabric (that people now think is my underwear....dummies) and I wear these pretty shorts as often as I can. No matter the season.

I may or may not have watched this trailer 7,298 times so far...

Remember my very first ever Sunday Storytime book review? Well, if you don't, let me refresh your memory. It was for The Hunger Games and I basically gave it 12 stars out of 5. Best book ever. And guess what!?! It's going to be a movie soon! I couldn't be more excited.

Here's the trailer. I may or may not have watched this 7,298 times so far. Give or take.

If you want to destroy my sweater.....

Today I decided to wear a thick, warm, cozy sweater to work. What started out as a "this is a pretty fun outfit" turned into a BAD situation pretty quickly. Bad. Very, very bad. As you all know, I walk to work. By the time I walked through the front doors I was basically dripping with sweat. (TMI, I know...) Little did I know when I was getting dressed this morning that the high for today is SEVENTY EIGHT DEGREES. What? It's November 15th. I mean, it's nearly winter and it's 78 degrees? Obviously I need to start checking the weather a big more religiously before I choose my outfits.

This is what happens when I don't have you guys choose my outfit for me. I am not capable of choosing my own clothing. So I was quickly ready to not be wearing this pretty, purple sweater. Luckily I had a jean jacket at work, so the second I walked into the office I grabbed my jean jacket and took this ridiculously warm sweater off.

It's a new day

Well friends. This weekend was a dud. Working in advertising. On the Walmart account. And with the holiday's closely approaching I'm finding that I really don't have much free time. A 13 hour day on Friday, and working all.weekend.long. Good thing I love my job.

Here's my beautiful, disheveled self today.

11|11|11 at 11am

Veteran's Day is a very important day in our country. In my office today, just five minutes ago, we had a moment of silence at the 11th hour, on the 11th day of the 11th month of the 11th year for all of the veterans and active military. Honestly, if I wasn't at work, I probably would have cried a little.

So all I can say is thank you. While I don't have anyone particularly close that is or was in the military, I can't even express how much I appreciate them.

Not your regular scheduled program

Now that I'm home from production, I should be able to do my 'What to Wear Friday' post where you guys tell me what I should be wearing. But I don't have enough clean clothes to even give you any good options to choose from! My dirty laundry hamper has officially taken over the bedroom. It's a little disturbing. So, next week, we'll be back to our regular schedule program.

The good news is that I'm pretty excited to show you guys this outfit though. A couple weeks ago I saw a few places, like Free People, that are styling with sweater leggings. I became obsessed and started my search for my own sweater leggings that were less than the $68 ones from Free People (I love you FP, but that was just too much for me). And lucky me, while I was in Chicago I found these beauties at H&M for $18!! Yup, that's right. Only $18. I love getting a good deal.

Fur-tastic

I love my fur. I bought this sucker last year and love how it instantly dresses up an outfit that would typically be a little blah. There's nothing blah when you have this baby on. The super high heels help too. I'm struttin' it at work today. Watch out.

Chicago Shoe Shopping

Well, I'm back home in Richmond after a week in Chicago. I had so much fun while I was there, even if I did end up working around 14 hours each day. I did get to enjoy a day-off there on Saturday and did a little shoe shopping! Check these beauties out. Green ones were purchased in Chicago at Marshalls. The other two were purchased for Chicago at Famous Footwear. Love love love them all.

And here's the remainder of my outfits from my week in Chicago. Happy to be home so I can stop with the mirror pictures.
